Yes, daydreaming can be both, our strength and our weakness. But how to know when it is one or the other? For example, let us look at lucid dreaming. It means that during the dream, the dreamer becomes aware that they are dreaming. There are certain techniques on how to lucid dream but what is the most important ingredient here? Orientation. Intention must be well oriented. With daydreaming is practically the same. Dreams are our strength when we are well oriented on the final goal. It there is no direction at all, our brain starts to wander quite soon and there is no practical result from our thoughts, just fatigue. What is our weakness then? Not being oriented enough. Our dreams, our wandering thoughts stay just that – thoughts. See, we need to put them in practice, even if it’s just one thought that has been materialized, it’s enough. We have fulfilled one small dream. Congrats. So how on Earth can we become well oriented and put our dreams out of our heads and into material form? Let me share some tips for quality time daydreaming:
1. Meditate more often
Meditation is a great practice of being mindful and present in the moment. Being present in the moment is necessary for putting our dreams into practice. If we are aware of the present moment we can’t wander too far into the future. As a consequence we are thinking exactly how to implement our dream into reality right now, we are not stuck in thinking how it would or could happen in the future.
2. Exercise – be in touch with your body
Being in touch with our body is also crucial for materialising thoughts into reality. That’s because when we are active, as you’ve probably already heard a hundred times before, our body produces more serotonin and dopamine which help us with raising our energy levels. And the more healthy you feel in your body, the more energy you will have, the more your dreams and thoughts can be used as a creative building element for making matter.
3. Breathing exercises
It’s similar to meditation. Different breathing exercises make you more aware of the reality around you. The more you are aware to your surroundings the less your mind will wander into the future and your thoughts, which were created from your dreams, will become clearer.
4. Journaling – keeping a dream journal
Keeping a dream journal is extremely good for your brain activity and for taking care of your good memory. Write down all the thoughts, all the dreams, all the creative ideas on paper or digital notebook and your thoughts will become less chaotic. I’m certain that we can put things in order much easier if we see them out in front of us. Be consistent with your daydream journal every day and take notice of how much easier you will accomplish a goal.
5. No drugs or alcohol
Yeah, you hear me right. I am not a strict person but it is a fact that alcohol and drugs cause some damage to the brain – which in turn also affects your daydreaming process. If you are abusing such substances, your flow of mind goes extremely chaotic. Remember, inspiration does not come from a can of beer or a smoke of marihuana, it comes from ourselves, from within.
Again, if there is no goal and right orientation, there is no positive results from daydreaming. Make it your strength, not your weakness, as much as you can. I believe in you.
So how about yourself? Would you say you’re a daydreamer? What does daydreaming mean to you? Do you view it as positive or negative? Is it your strength or your weakness? What techniques do you use for putting thoughts into practice? Please leave a comment below, we will be happy to read it.
